My friend directed me to this spot while we were following a group of photographers attending a workshop. You can see them gathered by the large glass pane in the center of the image. “What is it?” you might wonder. It’s actually the glass roof covering the stairwell that leads down to the subway. This space is full of interesting details and layers. Notice the giant 30-foot nail sculpture to the left. City planners and architects designed this area to lift the spirits of passersby, with the People’s Cathedral reflected in every direction. The juxtaposition of historic and contemporary architecture creates a striking visual contrast, symbolizing the harmonious coexistence of tradition and modernity in the city.

I hired a guide to take me to St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. When we arrived, a service was in progress, so I waited until it concluded, allowing me to capture the interior in photographs. This photograph captures the grandeur and reverence of this place. The intricate architecture, with its towering columns, ornate carvings, and lavish chandeliers, inspires awe and solemnity. The large stone baptismal font at the center, set against the checkered black-and-white marble floor, provides a strong visual anchor and a sense of historical weight.

This was taken in February of 2024 from my Lofoten Islands Norway photographic adventure. This mountain isn’t called “Hope” but I call it that, because the side facing the sun is so bathed in the early morning sunlight, that when I see such things, brightness and light, bathed in darkness and deep blue and magenta colors, it gives me hope. As do the small reflections from the buildings, where many are surrounded by the dark, but are shining through, showing exactly where hope is. Hope is best seen when we most need it…when we ourselves are in the dark! If you look really closely near the center of this image, just below the mountain, you will see the tiny people on the dock, bathed in the reflected light coming from the mountain. It is best seen by using the Flickr link and enlarging it on a computer screen to full view.
